Update
05/27/2022
The privy at Chatfield Memorial Shelter (NOBO mile 541.1) is currently closed due to being at capacity. Hikers should not use the privy and should instead bury their waste by digging a small hole in the ground (a cat hole). Proper cat holes are at least 6 inches deep and 200 feet from water sources and shelters/campsites. Only human waste and toilet paper should be put into cat holes. All trash, including all wipes, personal hygiene products, packaging, soiled clothes, and food waste, should be packed out.

We will update this notice when more information is available.
