Virginia – Blue Ridge Parkway – Partial Closure, 4/11/25
Virginia
Road Closure
Update
04/11/2025
The Blue Ridge Parkway is implementing a full road closure and detour along the park’s corridor in Roanoke, Virginia, from milepost 95.9 at Montvale Overlook (south of Peaks of Otter) to milepost 106, near U.S. Route 460, beginning April 14, 2025. The Appalachian Trail runs alongside the parkway and crosses it many times between U.S. 11 near Daleville and Rockfish Gap, at the southern end of Shenandoah National Park. The A.T. through this area will remain open, but will not be accessible via the parkway from where the A.T. first meets the parkway going northbound at Black Horse Gap to Montvale Overlook (NOBO miles 744.2 to 746.1).
A.T. hikers planning to access the Trail in this section or coordinate shuttles should make an alternative plan. This parkway closure is the next phase in a previously announced repaving and rehabilitation, Great American Outdoors Act (GAOA) Legacy Restoration Funded project.
