Update
09/29/2025
Beginning November 3, 2025, Harriman State Park will be opened for deer hunting to address the loss of forest biodiversity and the lack of tree regeneration due to long-term over-browsing by deer. This year’s hunting season will run until December 31, 2025. Hunting will be allowed along the Appalachian Trail (A.T.) where it runs through the park from I-87 to the Palisades Parkway (NOBO miles 1,388.2 to 1,401.8).
Deer hunting in the park is by permit only and is limited to weekdays (no hunting on weekends or holidays). A.T. hikers should plan to wear fluorescent or “blaze” orange, use extra caution at dawn/dusk and near roads, and be respectful of any hunters they encounter. For more information about hunting on the A.T. and hunting safety tips for hikers, visit our Hunting page.
