Maine – Katahdin Closing for Season, 10/16/25

As of tomorrow, Friday, October 17th, Baxter State Park will close all Katahdin trails for the season. This includes the Appalachian Trail (A.T.) in the park, known locally as the Hunt Trail. Snow is falling at high elevations in the park, with expected fluctuations between freezing and thawing temperatures in the coming days. This weather creates conditions that increase hiking’s impact on alpine habitats and trails. The park closes the mountain each fall and spring to protect the fragile alpine environment above treeline.
