Update: Newfound Gap Road is now open from the North Carolina side, from Cherokee, NC to Newfound Gap. There is still no access to Newfound Gap from the Tennessee side (including Gatlinburg, a popular resupply stop for hikers). Hikers should continue to monitor road conditions and adjust their itineraries accordingly. To stay up-to-date and for more information, visit the park’s website.

Newfound Gap Road (NOBO mile 208) is temporarily closed between Gatlinburg, TN and Cherokee, NC due to a slide that occurred overnight. Newfound Gap Road is the only road the Appalachian Trail crosses in Great Smoky Mountains National Park and the only resupply point for backpackers.
