Katahdin Closes for 2021 Hiking Season

On October 20, Baxter State Park announced the seasonal closure of all trails on Katahdin, including the final 5.1 miles of the Appalachian Trail and access to its northern terminus on Baxter Peak.

A.T. Reopens on Peters Mountain

The U.S. Forest Service has reopened the A.T. shelters located in the Chattahoochee-Oconee, Nantahala, Pisgah, Cherokee, and George Washington-Jefferson National Forests, which were previously closed for COVID-19 safety.
