Mary E. Hodges
Associate Director of Development, Annual Giving
Mary Hodges joined the Appalachian Trail Conservancy team in 2023, bringing a decade of experience in nonprofit fundraising and donor stewardship. A proud graduate of Radford University with a degree in Recreation, Parks, and Tourism, Mary began her nonprofit career as an AmeriCorps VISTA, where she cultivated a deep commitment to service and community engagement. Since then, she has dedicated her career to supporting causes close to her heart in southwest Virginia.
Mary’s appreciation for wild places inspires her work at the ATC. She takes pride in fostering meaningful relationships with donors, empowering them to create lasting legacies for the Appalachian Trail. With a natural talent for engaging supporters and including them in the mission, Mary excels in strategic communication, crafting impactful giving opportunities, and ensuring that donors feel valued as essential partners in protecting the A.T. She views philanthropy as a powerful way for individuals to connect with something larger than themselves, such as helping to ensure the Appalachian Trail’s resilience for generations to come.
Living just 15 minutes from the A.T. in Virginia’s Blue Ridge Mountains, Mary and her family embrace every opportunity to explore the outdoors. She, her husband, and their young daughter enjoy adventuring in their own backyard and across the country, having visited 32 national parks together.
