Fred Huber

Fred Huber is a professional botanist who worked for the U.S. Forest Service in North Carolina and Virginia for 26 years. This included threatened and endangered species monitoring and protection, identifying and establishing Special Biological Areas on the Forest, serving on the Forest Planning team, and conducting field surveys for rare species (including many miles of AT relocations). Fred is also an accomplished herpetologist working with rare and endemic salamanders and turtles in particular. Since retiring from the U.S. Forest Service, Fred works part time as an environmental consultant in Virginia, West Virginia, and Pennsylvania while also reading gardening, tending a large cactus and succulent collection, sailing on the Chesapeake Bay, botanizing, and hiking.
