Amanda Wheelock

Next Generation Advisory Council Member

Amanda grew up in northwest Georgia, just outside of Chattanooga, TN. She first got to explore the Appalachian Trail as a student at Dartmouth College, where she worked on an A.T. maintaining crew, participated in many Dartmouth Outing Club hikes, and led backpacking trips on the Trail for a nearby summer camp. After graduating with a degree in Geography modified with Environmental Studies, Amanda spent just over two years working as an environmental educator before transitioning into land and water conservation. She worked as the Office Administrator for ATC’s Southern Regional Office for a year and a half before moving to her current position as the Appalachia to Atlantic Program Officer at SouthWings, a conservation non-profit dedicated to protecting and restoring the ecosystems of the Southeast through the tool of aviation. Amanda is passionate about introducing a new generation to public lands and the wonder of the outdoors, and is excited to bring this passion to ATC as a Next Generation Advisory Council member. Her favorite ways to explore new places are backpacking, whitewater kayaking, and skiing, and her perfect lazy morning features two cups of black coffee, NPR, and a slightly complicated knitting project.
