Join us for our next Wild East Women (WEW) Network Call! For this network call, Sex/ual/ity educator and consultant, Auri East, will be offering a reflective workshop on gender equity and how groups and individuals can aim to be more inclusive in their language and focus. This will consist of 60% instruction and 40% discussion/solo reflection about perceptions of gender, what gender is, and what gender norms are and have been so that we can start to tease apart what is objectively real and what is subjective about gender. The workshop will wrap up with important actionable steps participants can take to foster spaces of inclusivity on and off trails. The goal of this learning experience is to provide a foundation upon which participants can build empathy toward queer and trans identities in their work and personal lives, and in outdoor spaces.

We will also share upcoming stewardship events and other opportunities to get involved with Wild East Women. Wild East Women is an affinity group working under the umbrella of the Appalachian Trail Conservancy (ATC) to support women* in engaging with trails and outdoor spaces in meaningful ways. WEW features interviews and workshops by women and non-binary folks who steward and advocate for trails, provides tips and strategies for outdoor adventures, and inspires women to get involved with hiking and trail stewardship.

*This group welcomes and celebrates cis women, trans women, and non-binary people who feel comfortable sharing in a women-centered space.

A Zoom link will be sent out to those who register for the event within two days prior to the call.

Advanced registration is necessary. Please register for this event by clicking on the “Express Your Interest” button below and then fill out the following form.

About the Speaker:

Auri East (they/them) is a Sex/ual/ity educator-consultant and multi-day river guide (among many other things, of course!). Auri has been a part of Idaho’s river community since 2015 when they began teaching English and Spanish at Alzar Schoo. They truly solidified their relationship with Idaho in 2017 when they found their forever-home at Canyons River Company. Auri earned their Certificate in Sexuality Education at Antioch University Seattle because, more than anything, they wanted to be a part of our educational system’s shift towards scientifically accurate, pleasure-positive, and shame-reducing sex education. Since graduating, Auri has taught workshops to adults and youth alike; they’ve spoken about childhood sexual development, positive parenting for trans youth, gender diversity, sex, STIs, and sexuality. And they are incredibly excited to share just a little bit of their know-how with you this April.
