Editorial Guidelines
Articles
Features stories in AT Journeys focus on the work and impact of the ATC. We welcome submissions of personal stories about Trail experiences (1,000 words or less) for our Voices From the Trail section of the magazine. Electronic submissions (Microsoft Word, Rich Text Format, or as plain ASCII text) are preferred and should be sent to editor@appalachiantrail.org. Alternatively, typewritten manuscripts with double-spacing should be sent to A.T. Journeys Editor at P.O. Box 807 Harpers Ferry, WV 25425.
Photography
Each edition contains several stand-alone photographs (including covers). Photos are of people, views, flora, and fauna on or from the A.T. Photos featuring people are most desirable, but must be “model-released,” meaning that the photographer has permission to publish a picture of an individual. Submissions must be high resolution; 300 dpi is the minimum. Payment is from $25 to $150, depending on placement; $200 for covers. Color prints are welcome, but are treated as donations and are not returned. All images should be identified as either “donation” or “permission and payment required.” Submissions should be sent to editor@appalachiantrail.org, or to A.T. Journeys Editor at the address above.
Illustrations
Original artwork is solicited by the editor, usually to accompany specific manuscripts. Queries about freestanding artwork that is exclusively oriented to the A.T. are welcome, particularly when accompanied by a sample copy of an artist’s work. Payment ranges from $30 to $200. Contact editor@appalachiantrail.org regarding questions about illustrations.
