Update: Officials with the U.S. Forest Service (USFS) have performed an assessment of Laurel Fork Shelter’s stone foundation, which survived the fire. In partnership with the Tennessee Eastman Hiking & Canoeing Club, the shelter will be repaired later this winter/in the spring of 2025.
All hikers should plan to camp elsewhere until the shelter is repaired and the area reopened.

Update: The area around the shelter remains is also closed to camping. Hikers should avoid this area and plan to camp elsewhere.

Laurel Fork Shelter (NOBO mile 422.2) is closed due to a fire. Hikers should avoid the shelter area for the immediate future and plan to camp elsewhere. We will update this notice with more information when it becomes available.
