How to Hike the A.T. Backpacking Courses
Over the past several weeks, the ATC has been monitoring the ever-changing effects of the COVID-19 pandemic and its potential impacts to the health and safety of A.T. hikers. Taking into consideration CDC recommendations for preventing the spread of the virus, as well as local, state, and federal responses, we have developed guidelines to ensure a safe hiking and learning environment for ATC Backpacking Courses.
In doing so, we realized these necessary safety guidelines create a major negative impact to the intended on-trail educational experience of these courses. For this reason, we have made the very difficult decision to cancel all 2020 How to Hike the A.T. Backpacking Courses.
We understand the disappointment and frustration this may cause. However, we know the A.T. will still be there when the pandemic has passed, and we want to continue helping new hikers prepare for their future A.T. journeys. To do this, we are developing new Virtual How to Hike the A.T. Courses. Course options are Backpacking 101 and Thru-hiking 101, and will each include:
- 1-1.5 hr Presentation and Discussion via Zoom
- 1 hr virtual gear shakedown and Q&A session w/ each participant
- Skills demonstration videos
- Backpacking gear list
- Meal planning guide
- Stay tuned for registration
We appreciate your understanding as we navigate this challenging time and work to ensure the health and safety of our staff and participants is our top priority. If you have any questions or would like to discuss our course offerings further, please contact [email protected].
