Update: Volunteers with the AMC-Connecticut Chapter are out today to assess damage and begin storm clean-up. Due to reports of a large hazardous tree, Limestone Spring Shelter is closed.
Volunteer maintainers also report that the section between approximately Route 41/ Under Mountain Road and Lions Head has a lot of damage (NOBO miles 1,508.0 to 1,510.2). Volunteers will be back out tomorrow, and we should continue to hear more details about Trail conditions. In the meantime, you can learn how you can volunteer and help the Trail when storms hit here.
Hikers should use caution when hiking through storm damaged areas. Always look up before stopping or choosing a campsite on the A.T., and avoid stopping under damaged, diseased, or leaning standing trees.

The Appalachian Trail Conservancy (ATC) has received reports that the stretch of Appalachian Trail (A.T) from approximately Belters Campsite (NOBO mile 1496.9) to Salisbury (NOBO mile 1507.9) was impacted by a series of extreme storms that hit the area over the July 4th weekend.
Belters Campsite and Limestone Springs Shelter and Campsite (NOBO mile 1503.6) are heavily damaged, and hikers should avoid the areas.
Weather forecasts show more severe weather with continuous rain until mid-day Tuesday and an estimate of 2 or more inches of rainfall. The National Weather Service has issued a flash flood warning for the area.
Be aware that streams will be high with strong water flow during and after the rainfall event. The storm likely damaged standing trees that could come down later.
Volunteers with the Connecticut A.T. Committee are coordinating assessing damage and clean-up. Thank you to their ongoing efforts. Learn how you can volunteer here.
This alert will be updated with further information as it is received.
