The Pennsylvania Game Commission has issued new safety requirements for non-hunters on state game lands. The Appalachian Trail (A.T.) winds in and out of game lands through most of the state, from just south of Boiling Springs to Wind Gap (approx. NOBO miles 1,121.2 to 1, 282.4).

The new regulations require all state game lands users not engaged in hunting, trapping, or fishing to wear fluorescent orange from October 1 through January 31, and from April 20 through May 31 for spring turkey season. Visitors are required to wear a minimum of 250 square inches of fluorescent orange on head, chest, and back combined, or a fluorescent orange hat.

Hunting is allowed on over half of the A.T. Out of an abundance of caution, the ATC recommends all A.T. hikers wear visible fluorescent (or blaze) orange at all times in the fall and spring, no matter where you are on the A.T.
