Virginia: Triple Crown Burn Ban

The National Park Service has issued a burn ban for the Virginia Triple Crown area due to elevated fire risk. This ban covers the Appalachian Trail (A.T.) from VA 624/Newport Road to VA 652/Mountain Pass Road (NOBO miles 705.4 to 733.1).
Campfires are prohibited in this section at this time. Camp stoves are allowed, but hikers should be extremely careful when using them.
A.T. hikers should always refrain from having campfires during times of high fire danger, regardless of whether an official burn ban is in place. Periods of hot, dry, windy weather mean high fire danger. Note that short periods of rain do not necessarily lower fire risk.
There is still a seasonal campfire restriction in Virginia and a burn ban in Shenandoah National Park, too. Learn more about wildfire risk on the A.T.
