The North Carolina Department of Transportation (NCDOT) has started work to replace the road bridge that carries the A.T. across the French Broad River in Hot Springs (NOBO mile 275.6). The A.T. will remain open during construction, but the contractor anticipates short delays (10-20 minutes at a time) for hikers crossing the bridge on December 8 and 9. These delays are for safety reasons and to minimize distractions in the work zone during critical crane operations. Similar delays may occur at different points throughout the project.
Hikers should follow all instructions from crews and posted signs.
