Starting this Friday, November 21, there will be a 0.5 mile detour for Appalachian Trail (A.T.) along Green Corner Road, near I-40. Volunteers with the Carolina Mountain Club, Georgia Appalachian Trail Club, and the Jolly Rovers will be replacing the masoned set of stone stairs that were damaged during the microburst storm in June, with funding from the ATC.
The detour will give the crew room to work.
Hikers heading northbound (NOBO) will need to continue walking up Green Corner Road until they see the A.T. cut into the woods to the right at NOBO mile 241.8. Hikers heading southbound (SOBO) will need to turn left when they reach Green Corner Road, continuing on the road down to the I-40 area and rejoining the A.T at NOBO mile 241.3.
