Trail Updates

10/12/2026

Baxter State Park will close all Katahdin trails for the season tomorrow, October 13. This includes the Appalachian Trail (A.T.) up the mountain (called the Hunt Trail in the park). Today is the final day to climb the mountain for the 2026 summer season.

The park closes the mountain to hiking each fall and spring to protect its fragile alpine environment. The closing date is always weather dependent. For more information, visit the park's website.
