Harriman State Park will open again for hunting this year on November 2, 2026. The park started to allow deer hunting last year to address the loss of forest biodiversity and the lack of tree regeneration due to long-term over-browsing by deer. This year's hunting season will run from November 2 until December 16 and December 26 to December 31 (excluding all weekends, official state holidays, and state regulated season closures).

Hunting will be allowed along the Appalachian Trail (A.T.) where it runs through the park from I-87 to the Palisades Parkway (NOBO miles 1,388.8 to 1,402.5).

Deer hunting in the park is by permit only. A.T. hikers should wear fluorescent or "blaze" orange, use extra caution at dawn/dusk and near roads, and be respectful of any hunters they encounter. For more information about hunting on the A.T. and hunting safety tips for hikers, visit our Hunting page.
