A wildfire is burning west/northwest of the Appalachian Trail (A.T.) near Gooch Gap (NOBO mile 16.9). The wildfire is several miles away and there is currently no threat to the A.T., but hikers may be able to see smoke from the fire anywhere along the Trail as it follows the ridgeline, from approximately Hightower Gap to Jacks Gap (NOBO miles 8.6 to 18.8). Firefighters are responding.

Hikers should exercise caution and follow all instructions from posted signs and fire crews anytime they encounter them on the A.T. Learn what to do if you encounter a wildfire on the Trail here. We will update this notice with more information as we receive it.
