A multi-year project to relocate the Byron Herbert Reece Trail is complete, and the new trail route is open. The Byron Herbert Reece Trail is an official side trail for the Appalachian Trail (A.T.), and the new route connects to the A.T. near Flatrock Gap (NOBO mile ~30.3). See the map below.
Located in the Blood Mountain Wilderness, the relocation improves the wilderness character of the Byron Herbert Reece Trail while also improving the long-term sustainability of the footpath and visitor experience. The new route is 1.4 miles and leaves from the existing parking area.
The relocation was completed by ATC’s Konnarock Trail Crew in partnership with the Georgia Appalachian Trail Club and the U.S. Forest Service. For more information about volunteering with Konnarock or another ATC trail crew, visit our Trail Crew webpage.
