The War Spur Branch Bridge at the War Spur Shelter is closed due to structural failure (NOBO mile 670.2). One of the bridge stringers has cracked, which caused the entire bridge to tilt. Hikers should stay off the bridge for their safety. The creek is a relatively simple crossing/rock hop except during extreme rainstorms.

While the bridge will not be replaced, crews will be out this fall to put in step stones and further harden the Trail crossing in order to protect the creek banks.

Hikers on the Appalachian Trail (A.T.) should always be prepared to ford rivers along the Trail and learn how to do so safely. Visit our River & Stream Crossings page for more information.
