Membership Meeting 2026 - Appalachian Trail Conservancy

The ATC’s annual membership meeting will be held virtually on September 1, 2026 at 6:30 p.m. EDT.

Our Membership Meeting is an opportunity for us to come together as a community to discuss the future of the ATC and recommit to educating and empowering current and future caretakers of the Appalachian Trail (A.T.).

The meeting will include brief presentations from ATC leadership. During the meeting, the results of the 2026 Board of Directors election will be announced.

New Members of the ATC Board of Directors

Clayton R. Adams

Clayton R. Adams is President and CEO of Mascoma Bank, a mutually owned community bank serving New Hampshire, Vermont, and Maine. He brings 25 years of executive leadership experience across banking, consumer products, consulting, employee-owned businesses, and nonprofit governance. Clay has led organizations through leadership transition, strategic growth, technology modernization, cultural change, and improved operating performance.

At Mascoma Bank, Clay transitioned from external Board Member to President, CEO, and internal Board Member. During his tenure, he professionalized the Senior Leadership Team, expanded the Bank into new markets including Portland, Maine, and Burlington, Vermont, and oversaw modernization of customer and operational technology platforms. The Bank also attained B Certification, making it one of the first banks in the country to do so.

Before joining Mascoma Bank, Clay served as CEO of Simon Pearce Inc., where he helped stabilize and professionalize a founder-led business and supported expansion into new products, stores, and geographies. Earlier, he served as COO and CEO of RSG, Inc., where he helped transition the company into a 100% employee stock ownership plan and guide significant revenue growth.

Clay holds an MBA from The Amos Tuck School at Dartmouth College and a Bachelor of Arts in Government and Environmental Studies from Dartmouth College. His board and community service includes current and past leadership roles with Alice Peck Day Memorial Hospital, Let’s Build Homes, Vital Communities, Delta Dental of Vermont, the Montshire Museum of Science, and other civic and nonprofit organizations.

Clay has a personal connection to the Appalachian Trail: he thru-hiked the Trail in 1997 and currently serves on the Appalachian Trail Campaign Advisory Council.

Clay lives and his wife, Elizabeth, live less than a half-a-mile from the Appalachian Trail in Hanover, NH.

Krystal D. Williams

Krystal D. Williams is the founder of Providentia Group PLLC where she provides accessible and strategic legal counsel to entrepreneurs, nonprofits, and growing organizations. Her practice is focused on strengthening Maine’s business ecosystem and helping mission-driven organizations build sustainable, resilient institutions.

Before entering the legal profession, Krystal spent more than a decade leading strategy, innovation, and growth initiatives for a Fortune 100 company. After graduating from the University of Maine School of Law in 2017, she began her legal career focusing on energy and environmental law. In 2020, she launched Providentia Group to expand access to sophisticated legal counsel for organizations often underserved by traditional legal models.

Also in 2020, Krystal founded the Alpha Legal Foundation, a nonprofit dedicated to diversifying Maine’s legal profession and expanding access to justice. Under her leadership, the organization launched the AmeriCorps Legal Access Navigators Program, an innovative community-based initiative that expands access to justice while creating pathways into the legal profession for individuals from historically underrepresented communities. In 2023, she co-designed the University of Maine School of Law’s Public Interest and Social Justice Certificate Program, helping establish a formal pathway for students pursuing careers in public service and social impact.

Krystal brings extensive nonprofit governance experience to the Appalachian Trail Conservancy. Her board service includes the ACLU of Maine, Coastal Enterprises, Inc. (CEI), Maine Center for Entrepreneurs, Maine Women’s Lobby Education Fund, Maine Boys to Men, and the Rural Youth Institute. She also served as a trustee of the University of New England, was the inaugural chairwoman of KinoTek, and currently serves as an incorporator for Mascoma Bank. Her experience spans organizational governance, strategic planning, entrepreneurship, community development, and institutional stewardship.

Krystal holds a J.D. from the University of Maine School of Law, an MBA from the Tuck School of Business at Dartmouth, and a Bachelor of Arts in Mathematics and Psychology from Williams College. She has been recognized as a MaineBiz 2021 Woman to Watch and a 2022 Mainer of the Year.

In 2011, Krystal (“Bumblebee”) completed a NOBO thru-hike of the Appalachian Trail. The experience profoundly shaped her understanding of resilience, stewardship, community, and the transformative power of wild places. She brings to the Appalachian Trail Conservancy a unique combination of governance experience, an environmental law background, community development expertise, and a commitment to protecting the Trail and the communities and landscapes it connects.

Carole Tomko

Carole Tomko is a global media executive and producer who has spent more than three decades helping organizations turn initiatives into lasting impact. She believes powerful storytelling can help tackle the world’s biggest challenges.

Working at the intersection of media, philanthropy, and technology, Carole has launched and led media networks, studios, and philanthropic initiatives while advising organizations on strategy, partnerships, and public engagement. She has collaborated with boards, nonprofits, funders, policymakers, and creative leaders to deliver measurable public impact.

As an executive producer, Carole has overseen award-winning documentaries on conservation, natural history, global health, and social justice. Most recently, she executive produced and led the impact campaign for Netflix’s The Plastic Detox, uniting hundreds of organizations in a global effort to raise awareness about plastics and human health.

Previously, Carole served as General Manager and Creative Director of Vulcan Productions, where she oversaw an award-winning portfolio of documentaries and content recognized with more than 200 industry awards at prestigious film festivals including Tribeca and Sundance, and received an Oscar nomination and an Emmy Award for Body Team 12.

Carole has also been recognized by CableFAX as one of the Most Influential Women in Cable and has been featured in publications including Seattle Met, TVWeek, and the Skoll Foundation’s State of Social Impact Entertainment for her leadership in mission-driven media and impact storytelling.

Earlier in her career, Carole held executive leadership positions at Discovery Communications, where she led several television networks, including Discovery Health, FitTV, Discovery Kids, and Discovery Studios.

Carole currently serves as Co-Chair of the Nominations and Governance Committee for Cascade PBS. She previously served on the boards of Jackson Wild and the King County Sexual Assault Resource Center (KCSARC). Her governance experience includes strategic planning, board development, and governance best practices. She contributed a personal essay in bestselling author Jennifer Skiff’s Rescuing Ladybugs: Inspirational Encounters with Animals That Changed the World, where she shared how her professional work shaped her lifelong commitment to protecting the natural world.

Carole’s connection to the Appalachian Trail began in childhood while hiking Mount Greylock in Massachusetts. Since then, she has completed significant sections of the A.T.in Massachusetts, Pennsylvania, Virginia, West Virginia, and Connecticut. An active member of several hiking organizations, she is deeply committed to protecting the Appalachian Trail and ensuring future generations can experience its extraordinary landscapes, communities, and sense of connection.

She holds a Bachelor of Arts in Government and Hispanic Studies from Connecticut College.

Rand Wentworth

Rand Wentworth is on the faculty of Harvard University where he received the Carballo Award for Excellence in Teaching and teaches environmental policy, leadership, and negotiation. From 2002-2016, Rand served as president of the Land Trust Alliance, a DC-based national conservation organization that leads over 1,000 land trusts with 12,000 staff, 14,000 board members, and 6.3 million members. Collectively, these groups have conserved over 61 million acres. Rand is widely recognized for expanding the pace and quality of land conservation in America.

Rand has testified before the U.S. Congress on multiple occasions and built a bi-partisan coalition that convinced Congress to pass environmental legislation. He created three NGOs including the Atlanta office of the Trust for Public Land where he tripled the size of the national park honoring Martin Luther King, Jr. and protected a 70-mile national park along the Chattahoochee River.

Prior to his career in conservation, he was president of a commercial real estate development company. He is graduate of Yale University and holds an MBA in finance from Cornell University.

Rand first walked on the Appalachian Trail at 12 years old when his father took him to the Delaware Water Gap and they hiked to Sunfish Pond. Though he moved often, he quickly found the A.T. to be his spiritual home. Through continued trips with his father, and now hikes with his wife and two sons, Rand has section hiked Katahdin to Harpers Ferry.

Eboni Preston Goddard, PhD

Led by a call to action, Eboni is a management professional with a background in environmental policy, operations, partnerships, and workforce development. She currently serves as the Southeast Regional Director and National Park Service Diversity Lead for the National Parks Conservation Association.

In addition to her service as Board Member with the Appalachian Trail Conservancy, she is also a board member with the Next 100 Coalition, Justice Outside, Georgia Conservation Voters, Alabama Values, Black Outside, and the Association for Outdoor Recreation and Education. She holds a BA from Duke University, an MSW from Columbia University, an MBA and MPA from Kennesaw State University, a certificate in business analytics from the Wharton School, and a PhD in environmental policy from Southern University and A&M College. In her free time, Eboni is an avid hiker, reader, and CrossFit enthusiast.

Bill Holman

Bill Holman is the former NC State Director of The Conservation Fund, where he advocated for conservation priorities, protecting drinking water supplies, and helping North Carolina communities recover from hurricanes and tropical storms. He previously directed the state policy program at Duke University’s Nicholas Institute for Environmental Policy Solutions. Bill’s public service includes roles as Secretary and as Assistant Secretary of the NC Department of Environment and Natural Resources. He received a bachelor’s degree in Biology from NC State University. He thru-hiked the AT in 1974-75.

Renee Allen-Maisonet

Renee Allen-Maisonet is the Founder and Executive Director of The BIPOC Outdoor Collective (The BOC), where she leads efforts to reconnect Black, Indigenous, and People of Color with the outdoors through Equity, Recreation, Advocacy, Conservation, and Education (E-RACE). With more than 20 years of experience in multimedia marketing, advertising, fundraising, and strategic partnerships, Renee previously served as Chief Development Officer of Greening Youth Foundation, leading corporate engagement and fundraising initiatives that expanded access to conservation careers. Inspired by her own journey, she believes communities of color are not discovering nature for the first time—they are reclaiming an ancestral legacy of stewardship. Through collaboration and community partnerships, Renee is building a more inclusive conservation movement for future generations.
