Sara Haxby
Volunteer Program Manager
Sara Haxby works to preserve and strengthen the Appalachian Trail volunteer program within the Cooperative Management System. This includes maintaining the Volunteer Engagement Platform, a database for volunteer recruitment and management, and supporting the Partner, Volunteer, and Trail Operations (PVTO) team to facilitate partnerships and center volunteerism while aiming to make volunteering open to all and easy to do.
Sara was first introduced to ATC during her thru-hike in 2009. In 2010, she got involved with ATC through the Hanover Area Friends of the A.T., on their way to being established as an A.T. Community™. When she moved to Pennsylvania she began volunteering with the Cumberland Valley Appalachian Trail Club before working with Keystone Trails Association, which introduced her to the instrumental and oftentimes invisible world of organized volunteer trail management. Sara joined the ATC at the Mid-Atlantic Regional Office (MARO) in 2017, supporting MARO and the Boiling Springs Visitor Center. In 2019, Sara joined the PVTO team to support the A.T. network.
