John joined the Appalachian Trail Conservancy in 2026 after years of business management. He has dedicated the latest chapter of his life to connecting people with the natural world through education, exploration, and stewardship. John has over 2,000 miles of hiking and backpacking experience, including a 2021 section hike of the Appalachian Trail from Springer Mountain to Harpers Ferry.
He is the Managing Partner and Lead Guide of Roots and Rocks Adventures LLC, provides gear expertise to a local outfitter, and is a Trail maintainer for the Potomac Appalachian Trail Club. John is certified as a forest bathing practitioner allowing him to further reflect his belief in nature’s restorative power and ability to facilitate meaningful, mindful experiences for diverse audiences. He is passionate about sharing the wonder of the Appalachian Trail with others, fostering inclusive and informative visitor experiences, and helping people form lasting connections with the outdoors.
