Dan Hale

New England Natural Resource and Land Stewardship Manager

Dan coordinates land and boundary stewardship for the Appalachian Trail in New England. Based in Maine, he facilitates collaboration and cooperation between the ATC, trail-maintaining clubs, and agency partners to monitor and manage the trail corridor.

Dan has a wide range of experience in environmental stewardship and ecological monitoring, as well as strong GIS and mapping skills. He earned his bachelor’s degree in Environmental Science from the University of Vermont and his Master’s in Natural Resources from the University of Connecticut. His work experience includes monitoring wilderness campsites for the Forest Service in Colorado, coordinating volunteers for the American Chestnut Foundation, monitoring logging area forests and streams in Washington State, and working as a ski patroller in Vermont and Utah.

Dan is passionate about conservation, land stewardship, and outdoor recreation. He is excited to be working with the strong network of people contributing to the mission of ATC.
