Mr. Wright first stepped onto the Appalachian Trail as a toddler on a family hike up Blood Mountain in Georgia in the early 1970’s. He has returned often since, hiking sections of the trail in Georgia, North Carolina, Virginia, and Maine. These hikes and other exposures to the outdoors inspired him to earn a degree in Biology with a Business Concentration from the University of Richmond, as well as a Masters in Environmental Management with a Concentration in Water Resources from Duke University.

Professionally, Mr. Wright’s career has arched as a scientist with a national environmental engineering firm consulting with private and government clients, a Vice President of a site contracting firm specializing in the construction of parks, plazas, greenways, and stream restorations, and most recently, as a managing partner of real estate development firm focused on mixed use projects, as well as single and multi-family housing.

Mr. Wright has fed his core interest in the natural world and our ability to access it through Board positions at the Blue Heron Nature Preserve in Atlanta and The Trust for Public Land. He joined the Board of the Appalachian Trail Conservancy in 2026.
