Restoration Program Coordinator, Virginia

Alex grew up in Missoula, MT, and moved around the U.S. for school, travel, and seasonal work with the U.S. Forest Service and the National Park Service, before settling in southwest Virginia. He thru-hiked the Appalachian Trail in 2019, the Pacific Crest Trail in 2023, and the Colorado Trail in 2024. You’ll still find him backpacking during his time off!

As restoration program coordinator, Alex works to target red spruce restoration sites and complete red spruce restoration within Virginia’s most notable sky island – Mount Rogers and Whitetop Mountain.

He completed a Bachelor of Arts degree in Geography at The Ohio State University, and a Master of Science in Geography at Virginia Tech, where his research focused on spatial prioritization of red spruce restoration in southwest Virginia.
