Hike Description
Visit the A.T.’s southern terminus!
- From the parking lot at the trailhead, hike southbound on the A.T. across the road and begin the steady climb up Springer Mountain. After 0.8 miles, pass the junction with the Benton MacKaye Trail.
- Another 0.2 mile south on the A.T. brings you to the summit of Springer Mountain and the southern terminus of the A.T. with great views to the west.
- To return, retrace your hike.
Directions
From GA 52, head north/northeast to Forest Service Road 28 (look for sign for Jones Creek on right). After 2.2 miles, take left fork onto FS 77 and go 5.1 miles to Winding Stair Gap. Take the hard left onto FS 42, and you’ll travel 2.7 miles before finding the A.T. crossing where there is a large parking area on the north side of the road. Long term parking is allowed at this lot for up to 14 days.
