Hike Description

This 0.5-mile section of the A.T. is situated at approximately 3,500 feet in an open pasture. The Trail gradually rises from the parking area to the height of land, terminating at a bench with sweeping views of the surrounding mountains, including distant views of Mount Rogers in the neighboring Virginia highlands. This portion of the A.T. was built to accommodate mobility impairments and was opened for public use in 2006

Trail Design Elements

  • Surface: Compacted gravel aggregate. 
  • Width: Minimum 36 inches. 
  • Edges: The path is not edged. 
  • Grade: Typically 4%, maximum 5% 
  • Cross slope: Typically 2%, maximum 5%. 
  • Obstacles:  
    • Two gates – both swing each way. 
    • Steepest and narrowest leaving parking lot through farm fence.  Still within limits above

Directions

Parking is a packed dirt lot off of TN 91 and there is ADA-accessible parking available. The accessible section of the A.T. starts just across the dirt Osborne Lane through a special stile used to keep cows in.
