Hike Description
Visit a historic part of the A.T. on beautiful Bear Mountain. The portion designed as an all person trail is approximately 0.5 mile (2,465 feet) in length, extending from the parking lot and coincides in part with the very first section of the A.T. to be opened. The Trail at the top of Bear Mountain winds through relatively level terrain with numerous rock outcroppings and passes Perkins Memorial Tower.
From the parking area by the tower, follow the A.T. southbound along a wide, gravel path. There is a detailed kiosk where the Trail leaves the parking lot with detailed information. Continue on the rolling pathway 0.5 mile to a scenic overlook at a rock outcropping that offers sweeping views of the valley below and the Hudson River.
