Firefighters are responding to the Wild River Fire, which is burning several miles east of the Appalachian Trail (A.T.) where it passes over the Carter-Moriah Range near Gorham, NH (approx. NOBO mile 1,895). Officials estimate the fire at about 300 acres.

The A.T. through the area remains open, but hikers may see and smell smoke. Hikers should use caution and follow directions from fire crews and any posted signs.

This area of New Hampshire is currently in a moderate drought, though rain is forecast in the coming days. Hikers should consider not having any campfires until conditions improve. For more information and updates about the fire, visit the White Mountain National Forest's official Facebook page.
