To address increasing safety concerns and impacts on private property from traffic during fall foliage, officials with the town of Pomfret will close Cloudland Road south of Barber Hill Road from Saturday, September 23 through Sunday, October 15, 2023. Only residents, guests of residents, and service providers will be allowed through. Barber Hill Road will be reduced to one-way westbound traffic and will not provide access to the A.T. from the south.
The Appalachian Trail (A.T.) on Cloudland Road (NOBO mile 1,739.1) will only be accessible from the north. Alternate parking for the A.T. in this area can be found at the A.T. parking lot on Route 12 (NOBO mile 1,732.9).
Fall is one of the busiest times along the A.T. in Vermont due to tourism related to foliage viewing. Visitors should plan accordingly and take extra care to practice Leave No Trace during this busy time on the Trail.
