Update

04/18/2022

The U.S. Forest Service (USFS) plans to conduct a prescribed burn in Donaldson and Arms Hill fields along the Appalachian Trail (A.T.) near Pomfret, VT as early as this month. The fields are directly south on the Trail from Joe Ranger Road (NOBO mile 1,739.0).

The section of Trail where the burn is conducted will be temporarily closed for several hours on the day of the burn. There will be fire staff on-site to direct hikers. Hikers should plan to find a different route on the day of the burn or be prepared to wait until the Trail reopens.

The date of the prescribed burn is dependent on weather. We will update this notice when we have more information.

There may be smoke in the surrounding areas during and after the prescribed burn. Hikers should always follow all posted signs and directions from fire crews.
