Update

4/18/2022

The U.S. Forest Service (USFS) plans to conduct prescribed burns in Trescott Field and Bent Field along the Appalachian Trail (A.T.) near Etna, NH as early as this month.

Trescott Field is located just north of Trescott Road (NOBO mile 1,756.6).

Bent Field is located between Etna-Hanover Center Road (NOBO mile 1,758.0) and Three Mile Road (NOBO mile 1,760.5).

The sections of Trail where the burns are conducted will be temporarily closed for several hours on the days of the burns. There will be fire staff on-site to direct hikers. Hikers should plan to find a different route on the day of the burns or be prepared to wait until the Trail reopens.

The dates of the prescribed burns are dependent on weather. We will update this notice when we have more information.

There may be smoke in the surrounding areas during and after the prescribed burns. Hikers should always follow all posted signs and directions from fire crews.
