Next Tuesday, Give a Gift to the Trail
November 24, 2020
2,193 miles. Five million steps. The equivalent of climbing Mount Everest sixteen times. No matter you choose to measure the Appalachian Trail (A.T.), one thing is abundantly clear: it is impossible to place a number on the amount of inspiration and awe people find on the Trail.
The A.T. has become an inseparable part of America’s outdoor recreation and environmental conservation identity. The Trail is an icon of the human spirit and a representation of how much we value our public lands.
The Appalachian Trail Conservancy is dedicated to protecting this national treasure, ensuring that it will last forever and for all to enjoy. But we cannot do it alone.
A week from today is #GivingTuesday, a global day of generosity where we give back to the people, places and organizations that continue to transform our world for the better. On December 1, we ask that you give back to the A.T. so that it can continue to inspire future generations, preserve critically important lands and habitats, and provide millions each year with a natural connection unlike any other in the world.
As we look at the challenges the A.T. faces in the coming years, your support is more essential than ever. Incompatible development and inadequate infrastructure policies put iconic A.T. views at risk. The growing popularity of outdoor recreation numbers requires extensive investments in Trail management and visitor education. The effects of climate change require quick, decisive action to ensure A.T. lands are as resilient as possible.
None of this can be accomplished without your support, and all of it is essential to protecting the A.T. hiking experience we all love and benefit from.
2020 has been a year that has affected us all, and we know that times are tough for many of you reading this. If you can, please keep the Trail in mind on #GivingTuesday, helping preserve a resource that has given us the breath we need during troubling times.
Your generosity makes a lasting difference in the work we can accomplish as we begin the next century of A.T. protection. Thank you for supporting the ATC, helping us ensure the Appalachian Trail and its surrounding landscape are protected forever for all to enjoy.
