Nominations Open Until July 15 for ATC Board of Directors

April 29, 2022

We are very excited to announce that nominations are now open for the positions of Directors who would serve on the Appalachian Trail Conservancy’s (ATC) governing body after elections that will be certified at this year’s annual membership meeting held this fall. The final date for the annual membership meeting will be announced later this summer.

Under the ATC’s bylaws, membership meetings are held each year, and the elected leadership serves staggered three-year terms, with one-third of the current seventeen Board positions coming open each year. A slate of nominees will be selected by our nominating committee which is within our governance committee, then approved by the full Board, and finally voted on by ATC membership at the annual meeting.

If you, or someone you know, are interested in serving on the ATC Board, we would welcome your nomination. We look at many criteria when reviewing all the nominations for the Board. Diversity of thought is a key attribute that we are looking for right now. Having experience in conservation, land management and climate advocacy is also a plus. The ATC is a complex, national non-profit, and it is important to us that you or your nominee can show us fiduciary oversight capabilities and experience of a similar scope in the non-profit or for-profit world. First and foremost, candidates should be able to demonstrate a passion for the Appalachian Trail (A.T.) and the mission of the ATC.

As guardians of the A.T., we strive to represent all that use the Trail or could use it in the future. We would love to know how you or your nominee could add to the diversity of the Board. As an all-volunteer working Board, membership requires a significant time commitment including attendance at four annual Board meetings, service on two Board committees and work assignments in-between.

All nominations, including self-nominations, should contain both the nominee’s and the nominator’s name, address, telephone number, and e-mail address, with a description of the person’s relevant experience, skills, and attributes with emphasis on the criteria above (oversight and specific experience, passion for the A.T., diversity of thought, and time considerations), and a bio or resume if available. We take every nomination seriously, and we appreciate the time you put into the nomination and the nomination process.  We so much appreciate anyone willing to volunteer their time and experience to help ensure the Trail is unspoiled and available for all, now and for future generations. The committee’s slate will be announced publicly, including on the ATC website, later this year.

Nominations should be sent no later than July 15, 2022, to: [email protected].
