Trailway News: Time for Trail Days!
Trail Days has officially begun! The Appalachian Trail Conservancy (ATC) is excited to join this annual celebration of all things Appalachian Trail (A.T.) taking place in beautiful Damascus, Virginia (a.k.a. “Trail
Town U.S.A.”). Be sure to follow us on Instagram throughout the event as we provide updates and photos. For those planning on participating, stop by our booth at the Damascus Trail Center to join our events and enter raffles for great backpacking prizes!
And even if you aren’t at Trail Days this year, you can still join the celebration of the A.T.! Head to appalachiantrail.org/traildays, let us know what you love about the Trail, and we will send you a free ATC sticker!

New $400,000 Grant Will Help Protect the A.T.
We are excited to announce that the ATC is the recipient of a $400,000 grant from the Olo for Good Fund, a Donor Advised Fund of Tides Foundation. This generous grant from a leader in digital hospitality will help support our work to protect, manage and advocate for the A.T. and its surrounding landscape.
Trail Updates
A.T. Detour Implemented in Harriman State Park
A section of the A.T. will soon be closed to avoid a major road crossing of the Palisades Interstate Parkway (NOBO mile 1,399.5) in Harriman State Park, New York. Hikers should follow the temporary detour to cross the Parkway via the Anthony Wayne Overpass.
Fire Closes Section of the A.T. in New Hampshire
Due to the Centennial Wildfire, the A.T. is closed from Leadmine State Forest to the junction of the Centennial Trail and the Mahoosuc Trail (NOBO approx. mile 1,897.0 to mile 1,899.6). Though the fire is 85% contained as of May 13, hikers should avoid the area and find an alternative route.
Q&A with Kris English
Give a warm welcome to ATC’s new Technical Trail Specialist, Kris English! Kris will be traveling along the A.T. providing a variety of workshops centered around introducing trail maintenance standards to people interested in volunteering as well as refreshing skills for long-time Trail volunteers.
