Wil Tollefson

William Tollefson teaches in the Department of Geosciences at East Tennessee State University, he specializes in Geographic Information Systems, Cartography, and Physical Geography. He also serves as the Director of Geospatial and Hazards Analysis for the Geoinformatics and Disaster Science (GADS) Lab at ETSU and the Assistant State Climatologist for the Tennessee Climate Office (TCO). William grew up in the Nashville area before landing in Johnson City, Tennessee. His work focuses on bringing clear and useful data to stakeholders for hazard mitigation planning and climate services, and in his work with the GADS Lab and with the TCO, William strives to communicate effectively and efficiently through map design, building on the idea that a picture is worth a thousand words, and believing that a map is just a picture of data.
