Join the Massachusetts A.T. Committee of the Appalachian Mountain Club's Berkshire Chapter on Tuesday, April 30 from 9 a.m to 4 p.m and spend the day improving a particularly muddy section of the A.T just south of the Tyringham Boardwalk.
Finding and placing stones in the middle of a muddy Trail for hikers to walk on ensures that there is a consolidated impact on the trail environment by encouraging people to avoid walking around muddy sections of trail. It also helps promote the second Leave No Trace (LNT) principle of traveling and camping on durable surfaces. Be prepared to get dirty! (There are also other ways to contribute if mud doesn’t look good on you.)
The group will be meeting at the A.T parking on Tyringhham Main Road at 9 a.m.
Be sure to wear long pants and sturdy shoes. Bring a lunch, plenty of water and snacks, sunscreen, bug spray, and a rain jacket.
