Join the Potomac Appalachian Trail Club on Friday, April 19, at 8:30 a.m and enjoy a day of service on the first National Scenic Trail, the Appalachian Trail. The group will be meeting at the upper (south) side parking in Gathland State Park near Burkittsville, MD.
Tools and training will be provided. Expect to hike 5-7 miles, be sure to wear sturdy boots, long pants, and work gloves. Also, bring your own lunch, personal snacks, a rain jacket, insect repellent, and plenty of water.
DIRECTIONS: From the I-70 or US 15 ramps in Frederick, take US 340 west toward Charles Town for 12 miles. Take the MD 17 ramp for Burkittsville. Go north on MD 17 for 4 miles, entering Burkittsville at a stop sign. Turn left at the stop sign, leave town on W Main St / Gapland Road and go up the mountain for a mile. With the Gathland Stone Arch and Arnoldstown Road to your right, make a left into the upper parking lot at Gathland State Park. (Accurate lat / long: 39.40462, -77.64035)
