Storing food in bear proof containers while camping helps protect bears and humans. The Connecticut Chapter of the Appalachian Mountain Club and REI are working to make some of the remote campsites along the A.T. in Connecticut a lot safer for wildlife and hikers by installing bear-resistant food storage boxes.
The group will be meeting at the Housatonic Valley Association parking lot located at 150 Kent Road in Cornwall Bridge, Connecticut at 9 a.m.on Saturday, July 28th and working until 3 p.m. Be sure to wear sturdy boots, long pants, and work gloves. Also, bring your own lunch, personal snacks, a rain jacket, insect repellent, and plenty of water.
