Bennington, Vermont will be officially designated as an Appalachian Trail (A.T.) Community™ in a virtual ceremony on Thursday, June 3rd at 6pm. As the first community in Vermont that many northbound Appalachian Trail (A.T.) hikers and Long Trail (L.T.) hikers come to, Bennington has, in many ways, always been an A.T. Community. The town is also an attractive designation for many section- and day-hikers, who flock to Bennington to experience annual festivals, recreation, arts, and culture.
Through this designation with the Appalachian Trail Conservancy, Bennington leaders hope to re-invigorate the town’s stewardship of the A.T., L.T., and other nearby trails. The A.T. Community Committee, led by Jonah Spivak and Silvia Cassano, is thrilled to be a part of this network, and is especially looking forward to collaborating with the other designated communities in Vermont and greater New England. Bennington will be Vermont’s third A.T. Community™.
