The A.T. Community program, established in 2010, consists of 51 designated rural communities along the A.T. corridor spanning 14 states. Each of these communities have submitted an official application to attain this designation, symbolizing an ongoing partnership with the Appalachian Trail Conservancy (ATC). These communities serve as the front door and welcome mat to public lands and waters, hosting not only those engaged in recreation, but also a workforce that is critical to the safe and responsible enjoyment of these stunning natural treasures. While serving as Community Coordinator the main objective is enhancing these partnerships by improving relationships with community members while actively listening to what can assist them in meeting their economic, stewardship, and community needs. This will include: strengthening communication with community members to field questions and comments, developing communication lists and resources, sharing regional funding resources, developing and implementing quarterly gatherings with network partners, facilitating educational opportunities, and creating a resource toolkit for community members. To complete these tasks the Community Coordinator will collaborate with various teams within the ATC to ensure the work being done is consistent with the strategic goals and communication style of the organization.
