Position Summary

The Landscape Partnership Manager fulfills a crucial position within the landscape conservation program at the Appalachian Trail Conservancy (ATC) by administering and advancing all functions of the Appalachian Trail Landscape Partnership (ATLP). As the foundation of the ATC’s landscape conservation efforts, the ATLP is a coalition of more than 100 public agencies and private nonprofits dedicated to greater Appalachian Trail (A.T.) protection through strategic land conservation. Now in its sixth year, the ATLP is on the cusp of enacting a new strategic plan, and the Landscape Partnership Manger will work to strengthen the Partnership during a critical time of growth.

The Landscape Partnership Manager will work closely with the ATC’s Director of Landscape Conservation to fulfill all duties related to ATLP management. Responsibilities of the Landscape Partnership Manager include ATLP operational support; partnership cultivation and development; and strategic internal and external communication implementation within the Partnership and across the A.T. landscape.

The ATC has played a key role in ensuring protection of the 280,000-acre protected greenway surrounding the 2,190-mile Appalachian Trail. ATC complements the federally owned corridor by advocating for the protection of adjacent high-priority lands and preserving the natural, cultural, and community values that define the Trail experience and contribute to climate change mitigation across this great eastern landscape. The ATLP—co-convened by the ATC and the National Park Service—further accelerates the pace and scale of land conservation throughout the A.T. landscape.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

ATLP Operational Support

  • Assists with the planning and execution of the ATLP Annual Meeting and provides appropriate follow up.
  • Supports the ATLP Steering Committee and plans and executes quarterly Steering Committee meetings.
  • Provides staff support to the working groups within the ATLP and attends working group meetings when appropriate.
  • Assists with other landscape meetings as appropriate.
  • Supports implementation of the 2021-2023 ATLP Strategic Plan.
  • Manages promotion and implementation of the Wild East Action Fund grant program.
  • Assists in the preparation of project packages for federally appropriated funding.
  • Works with development staff to prepare background materials for grant proposals and other fundraising efforts, as needed.
  • Oversees development and maintenance of a data management system for tracking and promoting land transactions and activities of the ATLP, including completed projects and ongoing projects as appropriate.
  • Coordinates with the ATC’s finance department on landscape accounting functions.

Partnership Cultivation and Development

  • Develops and manages a system to build, track, and promote membership in the ATLP.
  • Maintains new and existing partner relationships.
  • Coordinates work with coalition partners on special projects.
  • Participates in regional conservation partnership meetings when appropriate.

Internal and External Communications

  • Convenes and leads the ATLP Communications Working Group.
  • In conjunction with the ATLP Communications Working Group, develops necessary systems to implement the ATLP’s Communication Strategy.
  • Works with ATC’s Advancement team to promotes the values of the A.T. landscape internally and externally—most notably, the climate resilient values of the A.T. landscape and the recognition of the A.T. landscape as a climate corridor.
  • In conjunction with the ATC’s Advancement Department, produces and designs communication materials for both the ATLP and external audiences.
  • Works with ATC’s Advancement team to build and manage communication functions related to the ATLP, including website and social media content and a monthly e-newsletter.
  • Works with ATC’s Advancement team to write and produce promotional and informational materials needed for fundraising, publications, press releases, and public outreach.


  • Bachelor’s degree in environmental or natural-resource sciences or related field with a strong background in communications; or an equivalent combination of experience required.
  • 3 – 5 years of experience required.
  • Experience working with the environmental non-profit sector, managing projects, coalition/partnership building, developing and implementing communication systems, and providing logistical support.
  • Effective communication and writing skills.
  • Knowledge of and experience with ArcView GIS and mapping software.
  • Highly organized and detail oriented.
  • Familiarity and experience with Windows, Microsoft Office 365, Adobe Creative Cloud, video conferencing software, social media platforms, and website content management systems like WordPress.

Physical Demands and Work Environment

  • Ability to communicate and manage work tasks by phone, social media, email, and in person.
  • Working on the computer or telephone for prolonged periods.
  • At times, may require the ability to lift or move light to moderate weight.
  • Travel throughout the program area is required.
