Appalachian Trail Community: Narrows, Virginia

A picture is worth...a lot of words. Photos of Narrows, VA show this Small Town America snugged at the confluence of New River and Wolf Creek amidst the serene mountains which the trails of the A.T. and Mill Creek Nature Park share with the community and the world.

This tiny, square-mile community has a restaurant offering a home-cooked buffet, general store, grocery with ATM, laundry with machines for oversize items, internet-connected library, post office, and a gift shop featuring talents of over 30 local artisans and hikers' items like alpaca socks and free post cards.

In the words of one seasoned A.T. and Great Eastern Trail hiker, 'Everything a hiker needs is within a stone's throw!'

The town of hiker-welcoming folks also has an inn with a bed and shower or a campground for those who don't want to give up that trail feel. There is a shuttle to the Trail, a Visitors Center, and even a chance to experience traditional mountain music on The Crooked Road Musical Heritage Trail.

During time off the trail to attend to needs, hikers also take advantage of the "other side of the road" proximity of nature to enjoy water activities of swimming, kayaking, canoeing, rafting...or simply sitting at the Duck Pond. All this continues the special and unique A.T. tranquility and quiet as hikers enjoy "NARROWS VA...NATURALLY!"
