Of the 7 Leave No Trace Principles (LNT), the third one is to dispose of waste properly, and to pack out what you pack in. Since hikers aren’t asked to pack out their poo on the A.T. (though some land managers request it), trail maintainers help hikers by building and maintaining privies that provide a sanitary means of composting human waste.
Join the Trails Committee of the Appalachian Mountain Clubs Connecticut Chapter on Wednesday, June 19 from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.
and help repair the privy at the Schaghticoke Campsite.
The day will involve carrying materials and tools to this backcountry A.T. campsite as well as repairing and relocating the privy if necessary.
Please be sure to wear long pants and sturdy boots. Bring plenty of water (2-3 liters) and snacks for the day, a lunch, sunscreen, bug spray, and a rain jacket.
Advanced registration necessary; please use the following form in registering for this event.
