The Appalachian Trail Conservancy is offering an Intro to Hiking the Appalachian Trail class. This class is designed for people who are considering a section or thru-hike of the Appalachian Trail. It will cover how to access and navigate the trail, what to pack, places on the trail with permit or other special requirements, and how to properly store food and dispose of waste while hiking.
UPDATE: Due to an unprecedented number of registrations, the workshop has been moved to the following location (just a couple of blocks from the Appalachian Trail Conservancy Visitor Center):
The Barn of Harpers Ferry (also called Harpers Ferry Event Barn)
1062 West Washington Street
It's just uphill from the Harpers Ferry Post Office and Fire Station. There is parking available at the Barn.
The class is 1-1/2 hours in length.
Instructor Deb Coleman thru-hiked the Appalachian Trail in 2017 as a flip flopper. She is a member of Shenandoah Mountain Rescue Group, a volunteer wilderness search and rescue group.
