The A.T. Community of Pearisburg, Virginia invites trail enthusiasts near and far to opening day of the Community Market.
May 24, the Appalachian Trail is the theme of the market, with special events and activities to highlight the Trail.
In addition to live music and vendors, ATC along with RATC and OCVT will have a tent with a special activity to celebrate the 50th Anniversary of the National Trail System Act. Take a short walk on the temporary interpretive trail to learn more about the 50th, and win a prize!
Before the market starts, anyone over the age of 18 can join a short work hike to remove invasive plants from the A.T. in Pearisburg. Meet at the market at 2 pm or the Rte 100/Pearis Cemetery trailhead at 2:15. We'll work for 2 hours and be back at the market in time for all the festivities.
The Market opens at 5:30, with live music by blues band Chickenwings and Gravy starting at 6. The Giles Lions Breakfast Club will be serving up Fried green tomato sandwiches, red beans and rice and more. Don't miss the "Ask a Hiker" panel at 7 pm! A panel of current thru hikers will get up on stage to answer questions from the audience.
